Computer network training is one of the latest gateways to jump into the competitive IT world. Network is a media for computers to communicate with each other by sending files, instant messages and other information. This is accomplished through LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network). Nowadays, many companies use networks of computers to run their operations smoothly. So, computer networking is a good job option. Basically, there are two main networks, namely Microsoft and Novell.

Specialized degree and certificate network training programs are available through several institutions, schools and online coaching. Many schools conduct training courses as part of regular programs and vocation courses. Some of these schools have labs outside the classroom that students can attend during designated hours. Online training courses allow students to take their courses anytime, anywhere. In addition, you can purchase training courses individually or bundled, available on CD-ROM. Each regular training program extends from six months to one year.

Each networking training course comprises fundamental programs about the working plans of network, wiring and the types of software installed in computers. Normally, these basic courses run just for a few weeks. Students learn about workstations, servers, their functions, and different types of networking such as client server and peer to peer.

After the fundamental program, the training moves gradually toward the next higher part. In this phase, students can learn about individual systems and their differences. Many schools divide this phase into two operating systems, for Novell and Microsoft. Students can take either one or both. Each operating system course normally extends up to 3 months. But some schools concentrate on one system. Practical procedures such as installing workstation software, installing server software, wiring and finally, making a simple computer network are involved.

The students are prepared for the certification exams. The examination has a number of practice tests. Most centers allow their students to continue the training until they have passed the exams.

By: Ken Marlborough

If you are planning to run your own home based business then you will need to set up a home network. You will need a computer, a printer, then a copier and as your business grows you will find out that you need more and more sophisticated equipment to automate and make your home based business not only easier to manage but also a pleasant experience, something that you enjoy to do.

So what is a home network?

It is simply the computer network that you have in your home. In other words the computers, equipments and all the accessories that you connect together form your home network.

For your home based business network, you will need cables or radio beams to make the connection from one computer or equipment to another. These two basic options make up the difference between what is called a cabled or wired network versus a wireless network.

Cable connection used to be the primary way of connecting your network but with advances in technology it is now cheaper and less clumsy to create a wireless network.

When using cable connections, there are junctions called nodes that can be in the form of computers, switches or routers.

Switches.

They provide a place to plug the cables and therefore allow physical connections between communicating computers and other equipments.

Routers.

Routers on the other hand perform a similar purpose but with more functions and capabilities. For instance routers have the ability to connect multiple networks together and at the same time route traffic intelligently between them, something that the switches can not be able to perform.

Computers.

Computers have become very sophisticated as time passes by. Most computers now days perform these functions by themselves without the need of using external switches and routers.

Software within the computer system can use the network cards in each computer, with a simple switch in between, to allow communication between them. If your needs are fairly simple then computers by themselves can be the cheapest and easiest way to create a Home based business network.

Home Based Business Network System.

But again if on the other hand you home based business network is fairly advanced and requires more complicated connection then definitely you will need routers and some switches.

Let me also point out here that there are also other possible components you will need in order to fully set up your home network. Familiar devices that go under the general name of peripherals are often part of the home network, for instance you might need a printer, fax or scanner among multiple computers.

Also for your home based business network you will need to include a firewall. This is a software/hardware that allows the passage of information sent by trusted sources, but blocks other types of data from being send or received from other non trusted sources.

It is essential that you home based business network system stay protected by using a firewall. The good thing is that most routers if not all typically contain some inherent firewall functions.

Lesson 2 on home networking continues tomorrow.

By: Joseph Nyamache

Connecting to a wired Network requires you to do several things. Read the instructions so they can be easier to understand as you perform the task step by step. If you are in school or just have several computers in your home and need to connect them all to a wired network you will first plug the Ethernet cable into your computer and into the network port in the wall or in a mini hub.

Turn the computer on and open your web browser. From there you should be redirected to a registration page. Follow the sign up steps on the screen. Restart your computer and you should be good to go. Many colleges and schools have this system set up for students and teachers so they can be connected to the internet while in their dorms, classrooms, or other locations round the campus.

The necessity for internet service and computers in schools seems to be much greater today because computers are a wave of the future. They are used in every business today and the necessity will only increase so it is very important that everyone learn how to use the computer and to use the computer to write essays, term papers, etc. Setting up a computer and getting connected to the Internet can be a daunting task if you are not familiar with a computer.

There are new technological devices being introduced everyday so it can be very stressful if you know nothing about it. It may be a good idea to get a friend or professional computer expert help you to make sure you can be connected. There are a lot of technical terms used that can be very hard to understand if you are not knowledgeable about a computer.

If in doubt, get some help from someone who knows what they are doing. It is better to ask for help than to mess something up and have it cost you more in the long run. It is not shameful to ask for help. Most people do not know all of the tech words or their meanings when it comes to the computer and network. That is why some people go to school just to learn all about the computer. There is a need for educated computer experts so they can help those who do not understand all of that technical stuff. There are more people who do not understand it than those who do. We are all learning everyday and will not stop learning because new advances in technology will not allow it. It is an ongoing education we all need if we are going to be able to keep up. We all can learn from each other.

By: Gregg Hall

Computer networking is very important when it comes to in-house office jobs where the mutual connection of computers constitutes an important part of the whole work. Therefore, networking is an important element in today’s corporate world.

There are many professional technicians who have the to securely install whatever type of network you require. All networking vendors use the highest quality hardware and software to help insure that your network is trouble free so that you don’t have to worry about it. They also troubleshoot and maintain existing networks in homes and offices.

Most technicians are friendly, professional and qualified and will do everything in their power to make servicing your computer or network a positive experience. This means speaking in non-technical, easy-to-understand terms and explaining exactly what’s wrong, what your options are and what the estimated costs are. Computer network vendors and repairers provide support for all network platforms.

Of course, security should be your main concern. It should always be your number one priority when it comes to choosing a company to do your computer network repair. They should be fluent in all security program-related language, and should be able to communicate it in lay terms when needed. That way, you can work with them to decide what is the most efficient and least expensive route to take. However, do not skimp on this investment, for such skimping could hypothetically cost you your entire business in the long run.

Shop arouond for the most thorough and holistic service, and find the best situation for your company and your employees.

By: Thomas Morva

If you want to build a personal network, planning ahead can save both money and time especially if you ever know you will grow your local area network in the distant future.

The whole point of coming up with a plan is to realize what you actually need to put in your network, after all there are many more things available than just having computers that connect to the internet.

This includes WiFi, cables, or even both

Although you might be only using wired connections, will you be able to use WiFi in the future?

Almost everyone at some point, and the difference in prices between a wired router and wireless router is small, and just about every wireless router still have a wired ethernet hub built into them meaning we can still connect both wired and wireless devices.

The whole point most people want a home network setup is to share an internet connection, in this case it’s imperative the security and the router has the latest firmware, this includes Wireless Security, Router Security & each computer must have a firewall, anti-spyware and a firewall.

Long gone are the days of having to share your hard drive or have a special computer, network attached hard drives are easy to setup and they typically have space from 500gb to 2tb. Some even have a wireless option.

The speed of a network can be a major factor if you send big files, truth be told a cabled network will always be faster than wireless, as a rule of thumb use cabled where possible and wifi where you have to, i.e laptops.

One of the big mistakes made when many of us are setting up a home network in the house is thinking about future expansions to the network, spending a little less today will only mean you spend more down the road, work within your budget but be realistic, setup the network that suits your needs and and budget.

By: Alex D Smith

Now if you have noticed your computer slowing down with some really mean things happening when you are trying to work its possible that you have been hit by computer worms. Almost every second computer in the world is infected with a computer virus worm. Many people don’t even know that they are infected till its two late.

You need to understand exactly what performance issues your computer has in order to determine that you do indeed have computer worms on your system. Many people seem to think that computer virus worms and other viruses are one in the same thing when in fact they are not. Many people even those who are pretty good at understanding computers are confused and find it hard to tell the difference when their system has been hit.

Computer worms and viruses are similar in a number of ways but they are also different. Their infection is different and they cause different problems. A computer worm is a program that is self replicating, and self propagating which is designed in a way to harm your and well as other’s computers on a network.

Now what self replicating means is that the program makes many copies of itself and then send themselves though the computer network to computers which are not protected.

Computer worms have the ability to work on their own and they don’t have to be linked to a particular program. A virus too is self replicating which is a similar characteristic to a computer worm. The difference is that a virus needs to be attached to a program or software or even a file in order for it to go live. On the other hand computer worms can spread on their own and don’t need to be associated with a program.

One of the biggest problems that computer worms cause is they wreak havoc with a computer network. Now because they are pretty much self propagating they spread like wild fire as they are able to find and get into unprotected computers on a network. They search for holes and get into a computer via that hole. So as a rule of thumb the more safe your network is the better protected you are from computer worms.

Viruses tend to get into files and corrupt them. They also infiltrate into computers posing as harmless files that when executed go live. This is why many people advise that you scan your email before you open them and never executive an Exe file without knowing who the sender is and what the program is supposed to do.

Now one of the best ways to prevent your computer getting infected by a worm is to protect your network. Get a good firewall software which will help you hold back programs that try to get in. You should also install a good anti virus program on your system that is regularly updated and which also can scan for computer worms as well as viruses.

The more you understand what these things are the better you can protect and defend yourself. So make sure that you use a good program and everything should be ok.

By: Adrian Keating

Deciding to enter the world of consulting can be exhilarating. It can also keep you up at night worrying about whole multitude of thing. Some of the thing that computer consultants tell me keep them up counting sheep:

1. How can I get enough clients?

2. How should I deal with too much work?

3. Am I protected well enough by my contracts?

4. Are my rates too high?

5. Do I need (or want) a broker?

6. Should I grow my business or not?

7. How should I market my practice?

You probably noted that some of these contradicted others. The fact is that there
are as many ideas about computer consulting as there are consultants. As the person who owns and runs a technology consulting practice, You are unique. This is the good news and the bad news.

You may also have noticed that none of these reflect client issues. One of the misconceptions people have about consulting is that you spend all your time on client problems. It would be more accurate to say that you earn the right to spend time on client issues by handling these other issues well.

Each of the issues in this list represents a real challenge to your practice. If you can deal with them, you have an excellent chance of becoming self-fulfilled and well compensated. This book will show you ways to deal with each question, and to sleep a title more soundly at night.

By: Saichons Sannoks

Those in network management function as security, monitoring, control, allocation, deployment, coordination and planning personnel for a businesses network. Network management therefore describes the act of managing all of those roles. There are lot of protocols that exist for the operation of network management and its support including programs such as CMIP, Common Information Model, Java Management Extensions, Netconf, SNMP, Transaction Language 1 and WBEM.

The most important area of network marketing is routing. Routing is the process in which people select a path within a computer network that will be used to send data back and forth between computers. This area of network management focuses on using nodes, or more often they are referred to as routers, to pass logically addressed packets of information from their source to their destination in a process called forwarding. This is typically done through the use of routing tables which keep up a record of the most efficient routes on which to transfer the information.

Another key aspect of network management is security management. The goal of security management is to protect the network from unauthorized access which includes all of the networks sub-functions including the authorization of subscriber access, the distribution of security related events, control of distributing cryptographic keying material and the reporting of security related events.

Both the security and quality aspects of network management are related to configuration management. This is the department that manages security features in a specific business network by controlling any and all changes that are to be made to the software, hardware, firmware, documentation and test features within the businesses system. As the companies network system changes and grows the configuration management team keeps the system under control and is responsible for maintaining both security and quality.

Then there are two main areas of the software configuration management. The first area focuses on storing entities from the software development project, sometimes referred to as the component repository management. The other area is known as engineering support and is focused on producing these entities.

In order to have a successful network management team there also need to be an accounting management. This team focuses on the financial status of the business network by controlling and reporting its functions. Accounting management accomplishes this by doing analysis, planning and controlling the financial data and reporting any managerial decisions. Those involved in accounting management will work with bank account maintenance, developing financial statements and analyzing the businesses cash flow and financial health.

By: Jen Carter

One, your PC is slowing down after installing network adapter drivers. When you finish the installation of your net card driver and restart the PC, you find the boot up is markedly slower than before. Firstly, ensure that you have set up your compatible driver properly.

Commonly, it is in gear that the startup becomes much slower than before after a single computer experiences a network configuration, for the system will detect the adapter one more time. Surely, if the system freezes up for a long time on start, you should scrutinize the machine for other failures.

Besides, if you haven’t specified an IP address for your net card, your system will search one for it automatically on startup, which will take about 10 seconds. Even though your NIC is not in use at present, you’d better assign an IP address to it, and simply disable this card in the BIOS so as to boost the computer’s boot up.

Network card itself is less likely to have problems. The failures usually come from its drivers or the mismatch of transmission rate between the computer and the adapter, for these you can unload the driver and then readjust the correct network adapter parameter.

Two, your net card driver is broken while cleaning virus or because of shutting down the computer improperly.

If your network adapter programs are damaged and the adapter can not work, the network is unreachable and the net card light is on, go to the Device Manager (Start / Control Panel / System / Hardware / Device Manager) you will find a yellow exclamatory mark beside the Network adapters, which indicates that your net card driver is working irregularly, you need to unload and reinstall it.

By: Molly Smith

We have discussed the most basic home networking components. Here is a brief overview of those most basic components:

A switch is a device which directs information within your set of connections to its intended destinations.

A Router is a device which allows the connection of several computers and devices to your network, allowing them to share and exchange information.

A modem is a device which decodes packets of information sent to and from the Internet, allowing Internet service to be provided to your computer.

Connecting your Internet modem to a router will allow all the devices connected to that router to access a shared Internet connection.

Now we will be introduced to another set of components used commonly in network setups. While these components are not necessary for basic system operation, they can increase the usefulness and efficiency of your home set of connections.

Print Server

A print server can be very useful in order to incorporate a permanent printer into your home network. It is a device which allows a single (or several) printer/s to be shared by the various computers on your set of connections. This means that you can access the printer form the computer in your office, as well as your laptop, with no problems. The value of a printer server is further increased by the fact that it does not require a specific computer to remain on in order to access the printer.

Network Attached Storage (NAS)

This is a device which provides hard drive space to be shared for the entire system of computers. This means that any information stored on the shared hard drive will be accessible from any computer on the network.

There is also a way to accomplish this without the use of an NAS, but it is less efficient. It is possible to store information in a shared folder saved onto one computer in the complex. However, in order to access this information from another connected device, the original computer must be on. Also, any information will take up space on the computers hard drive. The use of Network Attached Storage resolves these problems, by having information accessible at all times, as well as adding more hard drive space to the network.

There are two common types of Network Attached Storage. Some units are available with a built-in hard drive, while others use an external hard drive. In the latter scenario, the hard drive space is easily upgradeable, should more disk space be needed in the future.

These devices should be your first steps to creating a useful, efficient, and modern home computer network.

By: Budda Oliver
